Project Description

This project consisted of a comprehensive renovation to the existing two storey law library in the Fraser building, which including a new mezzanine addition, new group study rooms, classrooms, grad study suite and private offices, undergraduate study rooms, new environmental law department, multimedia seminar rooms, customized service counters, secure rare books reserve room, reference & technical services facilities, and faculty offices. The design concept centred on the creation of open student spaces, generating site lines toward vistas and views to surrounding landscapes, enhancing access to natural light, incorporating multiple student lounge/study seating areas and integrating way-finding within the interior elements to achieve unity between the two floors while distinguishing the functional spaces within.

This project is an example of a complex renovation requiring full architectural services; including gathering as-built information, meeting with client and user groups, defining the program, conduction design meetings & presentations, prepare full tender documentation and provide construction administration services. The design included strategic seismic upgrading and the client’s decision to integrate a mezzanine during design development expanded the user’s program capabilities.
