Berwick Retirement Communities HQ
The proposed building is envisioned as a unifying headquarters, consolidating an organization currently dispersed across multiple locations into a singular, purpose-built facility. The design strategy centers around a linear organizational spine—a two-storey atrium—that serves not only as a connective element but also as a dynamic communal space for gatherings, events, and informal interactions. This central volume extends the full length of the building, creating visual continuity and promoting transparency while introducing abundant natural light into the interior environment. Flanking this atrium spine are two programmatic wings, housing a series of office spaces, meeting rooms, and amenity areas. These are carefully organized to promote connectivity and spatial efficiency, while maximizing access to daylight and views. The atrium acts as a light well, drawing sunlight deep into the plan and ensuring each workspace benefits from a bright and uplifting atmosphere.
The architectural massing is articulated as two opposing volumes, playfully arranged along the central spine. This compositional strategy not only breaks down the scale of the building but also introduces a dynamic dialogue between form and function. The design responds contextually to the light industrial character of the surrounding neighborhood through its robust materiality and expressive articulation. A restrained yet rich palette of materials has been selected to reinforce the building’s identity and contextual relevance.
This thoughtful interplay of material, light, and form results in a workplace that is both resilient and refined—anchored in its context while looking forward to the evolving needs of the organization it serves.
