This project represents the eighth and most recent addition to the Berwick portfolio of retirement communities. Located in the coastal city of Parksville, the development comprises 188 residential units and over 200,000 square feet of floor area, distributed across six storeys. Consistent with the Berwick brand, the community offers a comprehensive suite of amenities, including a large dining hall, café, bistro, multiple lounges, a library, pub, and a dedicated Zoom room—all strategically positioned at grade to engage with surrounding landscaped outdoor spaces. These exterior amenities include walking paths, water features, seating areas, a pickleball court, and a putting green, designed to foster wellness and community engagement. It also features a rooftop lounge and outdoor deck space with views to the Juan de Fuca Straits.
The architectural expression draws direct inspiration from Parksville’s coastal context, particularly its expansive white sand beaches and surrounding natural environment. Predominantly five storeys in height—with the exception of a sixth-storey penthouse and lounge—the building’s massing has been thoughtfully articulated to reduce its perceived scale along Jensen Avenue. A modulated plan form, combined with vertical elements and rhythmic façade accents, helps to break down the length of the street frontage and avoid a monolithic appearance.
This thoughtfully composed community balances the functional needs of a retirement residence with a design language rooted in its coastal setting, promoting comfort, dignity, and a strong sense of place.
